Krishna Bhagawan's lead role in John Appa Rao 40+ was critically acclaimed and his graduation as hero was admired. Ali and Sunil as the heroes in the mass entertainer Bommana Brothers-Chandana Sisters also had the producers and distributors laughing all the way to the bank.

And now, Raghubabu is jumping on the bandwagon of comedian-turned-heroes with his title role in Donga Sachinollu with Krishna Bhagawan. Direction is by Raja Vannemreddy, the director of many hits like Kshemamgaa Velli Laabhamgaa Randi, Mee Intiki Vaste Yemistaaru... and Aadivaaram Aadavallaku Selavu.

Brothers Ramudu (Raghubabu) and Kamudu (Krishna Bhagawan) were brought up by their uncle and aunt (Chandramohan and Sakuntala). Their older sister gets married to a well-to-do NRI (Vinod Kumar) and has a daughter Kavya (Rambha). Ramudu and Kamudu, who are less than intelligent, are treated like fools by the entire village, including their aunt and uncle.

Their elder sister and her husband return to India after two decades and want their only daughter Kavya to marry one of them. This happy state of affairs doesn't last long, as their brother-in-law gets cheated by his partners. At this juncture, Kavya flies down from the U.S. While going to the airport to receive their daughter, Kavya's parents are killed in an accident.

Kavya finds herself penniless as the court seizes her parents' entire assets. In these circumstances, do Ramudu and Kamudu take responsibility for their niece? Does one of them marry Kavya according to their deceased sister's wishes? More importantly, does Kavya develop any romantic feelings for either of the brothers? There lies the substance of the story.

Director Raja Vannemreddy has written an entire screenplay based on a thin storyline. For those conversant with Tamil films, the story reminds you of the old Sathyaraj-Prabhu-Nadia starrer Chinna Thambi, Periya Thambi. Raghubabu and Krishna Bhagawan have ably propped up the script with their performances. The two male leads are at ease in the dance sequences, choreographed while keeping in mind their village-idiot roles.

Rambha, said to have played a pivotal role, does not seem to have much to do on screen, apart from a couple of duets with the heroes.

Srilekha's music is strictly okay. The remix of 'Ippatikinkaa.' reminds us of an old tune; even the choreography gives the feel of a 70s song.

Raghubabu's character has been not defined as well as Krishna Bhagawan's, who has given his best in the main lead.

Dialogues by Rajendra Kumar are just so-so. Vijayakumar's cinematography is exquisite. The comedy track of Brahmanandam, Venumadhav and Kondavalasa Lakshmana Rao is a laugh riot, but Rajiv Kanakala's dalliance with Rambha is vague. Overall, a passable comedy.
